I arrived in the Toronto Airport on Wednesday of last week. The day, June 17th, the weather, dreary, and the hour, all but too early. I was eager to see what God had for me this summer but also sad to be leaving home and those I love! Six weeks is a long time to stay away from home and comfort!
Carson, a team member from Tennessee, and I safely arrive through customs to find Brett Porter, our supervisor, and Alyssa, another team member. Both were waiting eagerly for us to arrive. We then head to a place to eat lunch and then to our "home" for the next six weeks. Later that evening, our 4th and final team member arrives from North Carolina. Once we were all here, the orientation officially began. For the next 2 days, we found ourselves getting instructions in the morning and in the evening exploring the town.
Its day 5 now and orientation is over. Over the last few days we have met several people and God has allowed us to plant seeds in some. Toronto is a very lost city. The prominent growing religion is actually no religion at all. Its all too surreal to come from a place in the "bible belt" where everyone at least claims to be a Christian to a place where most claim nothing at all. But the exciting part is that those who do claim Christianity and Christ are ON FIRE for the Lord. Something that is very rarely seen back home.
Our team is working with the Sanctuary Mississauga Church and we attend there every Sunday. The church is wonderfully diverse. You can find South Africans, Chinese, Vietnamese, Americans, and many more. Seeing all of these people come from all these different cultures and background tells me that our God is a God of ALL people.
So that being said, our mission this summer is to show the people of Toronto that our God, our Yahweh, our Savior, is the God, Yahweh, and Savior of ALL people. Pray for us this summer as God will do mighty things. Our team verse for these 6 weeks is Habakuk 1:5 "Look at the nations and watch and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told." Please keep praying!
